Handmade polymer clay earrings stored carefully in a jewellery box

How to Care for Polymer Clay Earrings

Learn how to clean, store and protect polymer clay earrings so their colour, shape and gold-plated details remain looking their best.

Keep Them Dry

Remove polymer clay earrings before showering, swimming, exercising or sleeping. Although cured clay is durable for normal wear, repeated exposure to water, heat and moisture can affect attached findings, surface finishes and decorative details.

Avoid Perfume, Oils and Chemicals

Apply perfume, hairspray, moisturiser and make-up before putting on your earrings. Hand sanitiser, household cleaning products and other chemicals should also be kept away from the jewellery. These substances may dull surfaces or affect gold-plated elements over time.

Clean Gently

For light marks, use a soft, clean and slightly damp cloth, then dry the earrings immediately. Avoid abrasive pads, harsh cleaners and prolonged soaking. Decorative finishes, painted details, gold leaf and resin-coated areas should always be treated gently.

Store Them Properly

Keep earrings in a dry, dark place away from direct sunlight. A jewellery box, soft pouch or the original Sphere packaging will help protect them from dust, scratches and unnecessary pressure. Store pairs together, but avoid placing heavy jewellery on top of delicate components.

Handle with Care

Polymer clay has a degree of flexibility, but earrings should not be deliberately bent, twisted or dropped. Hold the earring by its main body or finding when putting it on and removing it. Take particular care with delicate connectors, pearls and raised embellishments.

Caring for Gold-Plated Findings

Gold plating naturally changes with wear, friction and exposure to moisture. Wipe findings gently after use and store them separately from harder jewellery. Good care cannot make plating permanent, but it can help preserve its appearance for longer.

A Simple Routine

Put your jewellery on last, remove it first and store it carefully after wear. This simple routine helps protect both the handmade clay components and the carefully selected finishing details.
